Changes to bulk upload
The new bulk upload allows you to create standalone QR Codes in bulk with a CSV or Excel file. We also added the option to create paired QR Codes and short links in bulk with the enhancements to our link bulk upload feature. This is an easy way to quickly shorten links, create QR codes at scale, or migrate links to Bitly from different platforms.
Learn more:
Create QR Codes without automatically attaching a short link
QR Codes are now fully detached from links, meaning that creating a QR Code will no longer automatically generate a short link. When creating a new QR Code, you have the option to create a paired short link or stand alone QR Code. If you choose to create a QR Code without a link, you'll still be able to add a link to an existing QR Code at a later time.
Benefits:
- You will no longer automatically be charged for a short link when you create a QR Code.
- Gives you flexibility when creating QR Codes to create only what you need.

When you call the Bitly API to get metrics for a short link, your engagement data can now include all click activity on that link in all its versions rather than just the most recent version after editing or redirecting.
This is just one of our ongoing improvements to give you a deeper understanding of your link performance and connect you more effectively with your audiences.

We've expanded the time period for which you can view data when setting a custom date range in Bitly Analytics. Previously, when you filtered your engagement data for a set date range, you were limited to filtering for a maximum of 30, 45, 60, or 90 days (depending on your plan). Now, you can view data for the maximum amount of time available on your plan.
For example, if you have an Enterprise plan with a maximum two years of engagement data, you can set a custom date range for up to two years, rather than 90 days.

Add custom URL parameters to your links

These parameters are added to your long link before it's shortened, giving you a link that's easy to share while still capturing all of the valuable information that UTM and URL parameters can provide.

API endpoint for QR Code scan metrics
You can now request QR Code scan data via the Bitly API. This allows you to easily and programmatically integrate your QR Code scan data into your existing analytics tools. Data is available by city, country, device OS, and browser, along with all scans for a QR Code.

GS1-compliant 2D Barcodes via the Bitly API
This feature is available with some paid plans
The Bitly API can be used to create 2D Barcodes. These are QR Codes that can be used much like a traditional barcode, while being able to store and communicate much more information.
Our 2D Barcodes are compliant with GS1 standards, the most widely-used supply chain standards in the world. They can store a Global Trade Identification Number (GTIN) so that a product can be scanned at checkout, as well as store other customer-facing information like expiration dates, sourcing information, and more.
2D Barcodes use the same API endpoint as our other QR Codes.
Learn more:
Bitly QR Codes API endpoint
There's a new version of our API endpoint for QR Codes. This new endpoint has more functionality, allowing you to create QR Codes without associated links, create GS1-compliant 2D Barcodes, and more.
It's also possible to make very simple requests to the new endpoint. When you visit our site for developers to get more information about the endpoint, we have sample requests on the right side of the screen. From the dropdown in the Create QR Code section, select Minimal to view an example of a simple one.
If you currently use the Bitly API to create, edit, or retrieve QR Codes, you're likely using the previous version of this endpoint. Your requests to the previous endpoint continue to work, but moving to the new version will make more functionality available to you.
