What is Notion?
Notion is an all-in-one workspace where teams write, plan, and organize their work. It combines notes, databases, wikis, and project management into a single, flexible tool — making it a popular hub for marketing teams managing campaigns, content calendars, and assets.
What can I do with the Bitly + Notion integration?
Bitly's Notion template lets you create and manage your Bitly links without ever leaving your workspace. Add a URL to the table, fill in your optional fields, and Bitly handles the rest, automatically generating your short link, and updating the status.
Key features:
- Short link creation: Paste a long URL and let Bitly generate a shortened link automatically.
- Custom domains and back-halves: Optionally specify your branded domain and custom back-half.
- UTM parameter support: Tag links with UTM fields for campaign tracking in your analytics tools
-
QR Code generation: Generate a QR Code alongside your short link in one step.
Availability: The Notion Bitly integration is available to all Bitly customers including free accounts.
How do I connect my Bitly account to Notion?
- Connect to your Notion Workspace.
-
Sign in to your Notion account, if not already and click Continue.
- Confirm your permissions and click Next.
- Select pages access and click Allow access.
- Click Allow on the authorization page. If you're not signed in to Bitly, you'll be prompted to log in first.
- Select your Bitly group and click Continue.
- Once connected, you're ready to start creating links and or QR codes from the table.
How do I create a link in Notion?
Each row in the Bitly Notion template represents one link. Here's how to create one:
- Click New to create a new page and add a row to the table.
- Paste your long URL into the Destination URL field.
- (Optional) Fill in any of the following fields:
- Domain — specify a custom domain if you have one set up in Bitly.
- Back Half — enter a custom back-half for your short link.
- UTM fields — add UTM parameters to track this link in your analytics platform.
-
Generate Options — select [QR CODE] here if you'd like a QR Code generated alongside your short link.
- When your row is complete, check the Ready to Generate checkbox.
Bitly will then automatically:
- Generate your short link and write it to the Short Link field.
- Update the Status field to reflect completion.
- Generate a QR Code if you selected that option.
Heads up: If your short link doesn't appear immediately, give it a moment and refresh. It may take a few minutes for the link generation process to complete after you check
Important: Fields you should not edit manually
To keep the integration working correctly, avoid editing these fields by hand after a link has been generated:
- Short Link
- Status
- QR Code
These fields are written and maintained automatically by Bitly. Manual edits may cause the integration to behave unexpectedly. To create a new link, always add a new row rather than modifying a completed one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use my custom domain with the Notion integration?
Yes. If you have a custom domain set up in your Bitly account, you can specify it in the Domain field when filling out a new row.
Can I generate a QR Code for every link I create?
Yes, but it's optional. Before checking Ready to Generate, select QR Code in the Generate Options column to include QR Code generation with that link.
What happens if I check Ready to Generate before the row is complete?
Only check Ready to Generate once your row is fully filled in. Triggering generation on an incomplete row may result in a link that's missing your custom settings. If that happens, add a new row and start fresh.
Can I use this integration with a free Bitly account?
Yes! The Notion Bitly integration is available to all Bitly customers including free accounts.
