Quick answer: You can permanently delete a Bitly link from your account if it hasn't been edited or redirected. You must be a Group or Account Admin to delete links. Deleted links — and any QR Codes attached to them — are removed permanently and cannot be recovered.
Before you delete a link
Review these important points before you begin:
- Link deletion is permanent and cannot be undone:
-
When you delete a link, the link, its click data, and any associated analytics are removed from your account and cannot be recovered. If you're unsure, consider hiding the link — hidden links can be restored at any time.
-
- Permissions required:
-
You must be a Group Admin or Account Admin to delete links. Members without this role will not have access to the Delete option.
-
- Deleting a link also deletes its QR Code:
-
Deleting a link also permanently deletes any associated QR Code. If you want to keep the QR Code, consider hiding the link instead.
-
- Deleting a link does not free up its back-half for reuse:
- Links with a custom back-half cannot be deleted at all. The hash from a deleted non-customized link cannot be applied to a new link.
When you can't delete a link
Some links cannot be deleted. If a link has been edited or redirected, the Delete option will not be available. All links can be hidden instead — hidden links remain in your account but won't appear in your default view.
