Troubleshooting login problems
Running into issues? We know it's frustrating when you can't access your account. Here are the most common problems and how to fix them.
Oops, too many login attempts. Please try again later.
Are you using a VPN? This error is often triggered by VPN usage — not because you have made too many attempts, but because the VPN's shared IP addresses have high traffic from many Bitly users.
To fix this:
- Switch VPN servers — try a different IP address or endpoint.
- Use a different VPN — some VPN providers have less congested IPs.
-
Temporarily disable your VPN — log in without it, then re-enable.
Incorrect email or password
Check these common causes:
- Wrong email address: Your account's primary email address is the only email that can be used to sign in, even if you've added and verified additional email addresses. To change the primary email address, visit How do I change my account email address?.
- Caps Lock on: Passwords are case-sensitive.
- Browser autofill error: Clear the fields and type your credentials manually.
-
Need a password: If you signed up with Google, Apple, Facebook, or Twitter, you may not have set a password yet. Use the reset steps to create one.
