With Bitly, you can take a long link (aka a destination URL) and shorten it to one that's easier to share. With a paid plan, you can use your own custom domain and a custom back-half to get a unique and branded link.
For example:
Long link: https://www.bizjournals.com/denver/news/2019/09/11/bitly-denver-office.html
Short link: https://bit.ly/2QglpGx
Custom link: https://bitly.is/indenver
When you create a link with Bitly, clicks on it are redirected to the destination URL you started with. To do this, we issue a 301 redirect, a technique for making a webpage available under many URLs. We don't re-use or modify shortened links, so our redirects are permanent.
A 301 redirect doesn't affect your website's SEO.
