What is the billing system migration?
Bitly is upgrading our billing infrastructure to provide you with better reliability and an improved payment experience. This migration will happen automatically for all accounts during a predetermined, approximately 48-hour maintenance window and we're scheduling migrations in phases to minimize any disruption. Your links, analytics, and QR Codes work normally throughout—only billing features pause temporarily during your window.
What happens during the migration?
Your billing migration will take place during an approximately 48-hour maintenance window. During this time, certain billing-related features will be temporarily unavailable while we transition your account to the new system.
Timeline: Migrations are scheduled on a rolling basis from January 13 - February 11, 2026. Each migration window lasts approximately 48 hours, starting at 8 PM ET and ending around 8 PM ET two days later. During this window, you'll see a notification banner in your billing details in the Bitly app. When your migration is complete, you'll receive an email notification.
Example migration window: Monday, January 19 at 8 PM ET to Wednesday, January 21 at 8 PM ET.
What you cannot do during migration:
- View or update payment methods: You won't be able to add, remove, or modify credit cards or payment information.
- Change your subscription plan: Upgrades, downgrades, and plan changes are temporarily unavailable.
- Access billing history: Past invoices and payment records won't be accessible during the window.
- Update billing information: Changes to billing address, contact email, or company details cannot be made.
- Cancel or modify subscriptions: Subscription changes and cancellations are paused during migration.
What continues to work normally:
- Creating and managing links
- Generating QR codes
- Viewing analytics and reports
- All Bitly integrations
Important: Only billing-related features are affected during migration. Your links, QR codes, and analytics remain fully functional throughout the entire process.
How to prepare for your migration
Follow these steps to ensure a smooth transition:
- Watch for your notification email: Check your inbox one week before your migration date
- Complete any billing changes in advance: If you need to update payment methods or change plans, do so before your migration window
- Note your migration timeframe: Each migration lasts approximately 48 hours. You'll be notified of your specific timing in advance via email.
- Continue using Bitly normally: All link and analytics features work throughout the migration.

How will I know when my migration is scheduled?
You'll receive an email one week before your migration with the exact date and time. If you're logged into Bitly during your migration window, you'll also see an in-app notification.
How will I know when my migration is complete?
You'll see a notification banner in your billing and usage section (Settings > Billing & Usage) during the migration. Once that banner disappears, your migration is complete and you'll have full access to all billing features again.
The migration typically takes up to 48 hours. During this time, if you try to view your billing details, you'll see the notification banner letting you know the migration is still in progress.
What if I don't receive the week-before email?
Check your spam folder for emails from Bitly. If you still can't find it and need to know your migration date, contact Support.
