This feature is available with some paid plans
When you first subscribe or upgrade to some paid plans, you may get the option to choose a complimentary custom domain instead of adding one that you purchased elsewhere.
You only get to choose one domain through this offer and cannot choose a different one after your selection is made. The domain cannot be transferred to you or another owner.
To directly own and have more control over a custom short domain, you can purchase one through a domain registrar like GoDaddy. After you buy your custom domain, add it to Bitly for use with your shortened links.
If you're trying to transfer your own custom domain between domain registrars, please contact your registrar's support team or check their documentation. This usually involves unlocking your domain, getting an authorization code, and then transferring.
Keep these things in mind as you choose and set up a custom domain:
- The domain for your short links must be different than your website domain.
- It can't be more than 32 characters long, including the dot.
- If you don't have one yet, Bitly offers a complimentary domain on some paid plans.
