This feature is available with some paid plans
If you change your custom domain, any links that use your previous domain will eventually stop working.
How this works depends on whether you got your own domain from a domain provider like GoDaddy or a complimentary domain through us.
Your own custom domain
When your custom domain is verified in the Bitly platform, we provision an SSL certificate for that domain. As long as it's active in your account, we continue to renew the domain's SSL certificate.
If you remove your domain from your account or change to a new one, we won't renew that SSL certificate when it expires.
The links will continue to work as long as your previous domain's DNS settings still point to Bitly's IP addresses, but users may get a warning that the link leads to a website that is not secure.
You also won't be able to redirect or modify those links once the domain is removed.
Complimentary domain
If you received a complimentary domain through Bitly and you change your custom domain, we won't renew your domain with the DNS host when it expires.
Your links will continue to work until the domain registration expires. This happens one year after you received the domain, or one year after its most recent renewal. At this point, your links will break.
