Bitly filters bot traffic to the best of our ability, but your reports may still contain some clicks generated by bots.
Our bot filtering system is designed to provide accurate click metrics in the face of known bots and certain large-scale abuse, but the system is not designed to detect or counteract click fraud or other forms of intentional traffic inflation.
If we see an excessively high rate of click activity from a single IP address, we treat all traffic from that IP as bot traffic for a time. We don't retroactively change metrics based on new knowledge about bots (e.g., if an IP address is identified as a bot, prior activity from that IP address is unaffected).
