What is IFTTT?
IFTTT is a platform for building connections between apps or devices so they can work together automatically. These connections are called Applets. When you build an Applet, you'll set up triggers and actions between the apps you work with, so when something happens in app A, app B responds by doing something else - in other words, "If this, then that" or IFTTT.
When you log in to IFTTT, you'll find pre-built Applets shared by other people. You can also build your own. By automating actions and sharing data across the products you use, you can save yourself time and keep things updated automatically.
Why should I enable this integration?
Any Applets that involve sharing a link will shorten the link with the IFTTT domain by default (for example, https://ift.tt/my_link). By connecting your Bitly account to IFTTT, you can use your own account's domain to customize your IFTTT links and record their clicks in your Bitly account.
Who can set this up?
Anyone with a Bitly account and an IFTTT account. You also need accounts with any of the apps you want to connect to.
How do I connect IFTTT to Bitly?
These steps will guide you through using your Bitly account to generate short links instead of using IFTTT's default domain.
For building Applets that connect Bitly to other apps or devices, we'll refer you to IFTTT's more comprehensive help site.
- Sign in to your IFTTT account.
- Click the profile menu and select Settings.
- Scroll down to URL shortening and click Use your bit.ly account.
- Log in to your Bitly account, select the group you'd like to generate links from, and click Allow. If you're already signed in, you'll see the authorization screen right away.
And that's it. Now when you use an Applet that generates links, they will be shortened through your Bitly account.
