There are a few reasons why a Bitly Link may lead to an error or a warning page:
- The destination URL may not be working. This could be because the destination site is down or because the short link points to an invalid URL. If you know the link's destination, go directly there to confirm if it's working. If you don't know it, follow these steps to find the destination URL.
- There may be a typo in the destination or short URL. If you created this link, check for typos in the destination URL and make sure that you copy the short link, rather than typing it out. If you didn't create it, inform the person or organization who shared it with you that it isn't functioning.
- Its domain may be blocked by your organization or network's firewall. If you're using a work network, check with your IT department to confirm whether the domain used for the link has been blocklisted. Visit How do I allowlist a domain? for more details.
- The link may have been marked as malicious. If you see a warning page instead of your link's destination, this is the cause. If you believe that this link should not be blocked, use our appeal form to let us know.
We also recommend trying a few other links. If multiple links lead to an error, check the Bitly status page.
