Images can be used for your Bitly Page's profile image, header, background, and button thumbnails. You can also add images as content on your page, displayed as a single image, grid, or carousel. Follow these best practices and recommendations to get the most out of your page design.
This article covers:
- General image requirements
- Button thumbnails
- Profile images/logos
- Background and header images
- Inline images
Bitly Page image requirements
Images must be one of these file types: PNG, SVG, JPG, or GIF.
The maximum image size is 2500 x 2500 pixels.
The max file size is 5 MB.
All images must adhere to our Acceptable Use Policy. Rejected images can be appealed.
Button thumbnails
Thumbnail images on your Bitly Page buttons help draw attention to your most important content. Here are some tips for using them:
- The image dimensions should be 1:1
- Be mindful of the color contrast with your button color
- Simple images like icons work best
Profile images
The image should have a 1:1 aspect ratio.
If you have multiple versions of your image, we recommend using the version that is the least complex. The size of the profile image differs between page layouts but generally, simple images look best.
You can also mix it up and include your logo in the header image on certain layouts.
Background and header images
Images can be used as the background of any Bitly Page. Many of our templates also have a header section. We recommend different aspect ratios for each:
- Background: We recommend using an image with portrait (vertical) orientation
- Header: We recommend using landscape (horizontal) orientation.
Avoid complex or detailed images for both the header and the background at the same time, as that can make your page feel very busy.
Scaling background and header images
Think about where your audience is most likely to view your page (on a mobile device or computer screen), then test your images on that platform and crop or scale the image to look best there.
Once background and header images are uploaded, you have three options:
- Stretch: The image scales to the smallest possible size to fill the page or header section, without any empty space.
- Fit: The image will scale to make sure it's fully visible, which may leave empty space.
- Repeat: If the image is smaller than the area it's being used in, it will repeat until the space is filled.
If your background or header images leaves empty space on your page, you can configure the color behind the image to make any empty space blend into the image or the background.
Inline images
Your page can have images inline with other content (link buttons or videos). As with your other images, be mindful of the color contrast with your background.
There are three ways to add these types of images:
- Individual inline images
- Images in a grid layout (depending on your plan)
- Images in a carousel (depending on your plan)
For individual images, you can choose its aspect ratio: 1:1, 3:2, or 16:9. You can also use the original aspect ratio, meaning these images are very flexible: They can be vertical, horizontal, or square.
For grids and carousels, the image should have a 1:1 aspect ratio. The size of these images adjust automatically based on the number of images in each grid or carousel:
- Grids: Images scale automatically to create an even grid, up to 3x3.
- Carousels: If there is one or two images, they fill the width of the content on the page. If there are three or more images, the preview of the third image shows to the right and the container becomes scrollable.
